The current range of EUROMAC2 insulating formwork blocks is made up of two expanded polystyrene walls held together by metal spacers molded into EPS at the factory. The spacing between these two walls determines the thickness of the concrete wall which will be poured after assembly of the blocks on a floor height. The most common concrete wall in the EUROMAC2 range measures 160mm thick.
The current project consists of reducing the thickness of this veil in order to minimize the quantity of concrete necessary in order to reduce the carbon impact of the EUROMAC2 wall. In partnership with the company ERB (49) which manages with the CSTB the question of the structural conformity of the 85mm wall, EUROMAC2 proposed the creation of an insulating formwork block with reduced concrete wall.
The prototype was produced in April 2023 and consists of the integration of a polystyrene element inside the spacing provided for the 160mm concrete wall. This method increases the thickness and thermal resistance of the exterior wall, thus reinforcing the thermal performance of the block, in particular in terms of the treatment of thermal bridges between the floor/façade and slit/façade. Tests in real conditions are planned for the 3rd quarter of 2023 and production for the following quarter. The final manufacturing stage will consist of the creation of a mold dedicated to the production of this type of block, after having definitively validated the most appropriate concrete wall thickness.
To date, there is no insulating masonry solution with such a thin concrete layer (85mm). The outcome of this project will be marked by obtaining an Atex and will pave the way for a revision of the Eurocodes.
This product is a continuation of our current range adapted to the new main challenge of RE 2020, namely the reduction of the environmental impact and in particular the global warming indicator of our products. The reduction in the thickness of the concrete veil aims to reduce
